The town of Chernobyl was evacuated on the 27th April 1986, only thirty hours after accident at the Nuclear Power Plant. Today Chernobyl is mostly a ghost town however a small number of people still reside in their houses. The administrative personnel of the Exclusion Zone and some contract workers are stationed in the town as well as tourists staying in hotel “Desiatka”.
All of the abandoned buildings were cleared of any valuable possessions over the years and many are in very poor condition. With the the curfew that starts at 10PM it’s not possible to (legally) wander around undisturbed at night, however some exploration is still possible.
