HBO Chernobyl Filming Locations

The HBO’s Chernobyl series is highly rated and I lost count how many times I’ve seen it. As you might know, it was filmed mostly in Lithuania, and while Vilnius is list of cities to visit, for now I have too many commitments to travel to the Baltic countries. Luckily I met Piotr Kaźmierczak, a Polish traveler and photographer, who documents famous film locations. Recently, he took a trip to Lithuania to compare the HBO Chernobyl series locations to the real world, and kindly allowed me to use his photos here.

For the most part, HBO Chernobyl was filmed in:

  • Vilnius’ Fabijoniškės District: This neighborhood doubled as Pripyat, showcasing the hauntingly familiar Soviet-era apartment blocks from the series.
  • Kaunas: The hospital scenes and Legasov’s house were filmed here.
  • Kėdainiai: This town also played a role as parts of Pripyat, blending seamlessly into the series’ eerie atmosphere.

If you’re as fascinated by movie locations as Piotr is, check out his work on Instagram and leave a few likes, he deserves it!
